Skip to contentSanta Mónica Crochet is a social movement that was born in the women's prisons of Peru looking for a new opportunity in life through fashion and mainly knitting.
Santa Mónica Crochet is a story of improvement, talent and a lot of sacrifice that began more than 20 years ago in a small workshop located in the garden of my parents' house where I was knitting, creating and learning from the hand of a group of knitters who lived in Musa by Manchay (a human settlement located in Lima, Peru).
Many years later, thanks to Father Lancier, the priest at my school, I was able to begin working with women deprived of liberty at the Chorrillos Annex prison. This experience of running weaving workshops in prisons has been a carousel of experiences and emotions, but with a lot of love and effort we are sure that we will go very far.
It has been more than 7 years working in the prisons and 3 years since we created Santa Mónica Crochet we have been able to work with more than 50 inmates between the 3 prisons in Chorrillos and we hope to continue growing thanks to the support of the community that supports us.
She began to knit, design and work with the weavers of the glass of milk program in Musa, filling almost her entire house with woven clothes, selling them and giving them away only to her close acquaintances without any brand.
In 2016 she began working with the artisan weavers from the Annex Penitentiary. During the pandemic, he created Santa Mónica Crochet around 2020 and has been directing the brand's workshops in the Virgen de Fátima and Santa Mónica de Chorrillos prisons.
